The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage (Review)

The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage

The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage is volume 1 of a new trilogy set in the world of His Dark Materials (by Philip Pullman). This volume takes place before the events in the other series, with some overlap of characters.

The original series was interesting for the world it created; this book doesn’t really add much to that.

The story was interesting enough to keep me to the end, and I’ll look for the sequels, but it wasn’t as fun as the other series. I can’t help drawing an analogy to Star Wars Episode 1: the universe is mostly set, stakes are limited for the key characters we know will survive, but you can enjoy the trip for what it is.
